- Shelby Reg. Relief Bill Moves Forward to Full Senate
The regulatory relief bill titled the "Financial Regulatory Improvement Act" was approved by the committee in a party-line vote of 12-10 after mark up this week. The bill was released just last week and holds several provisions including greater transparency from the NCUA. [5/22/15]

NCUA Chair Debbie Matz saluted law enforcement at a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Finest Federal Credit Union that was chartered in February. The new credit union will serve the 74,000 members of the various law enforcement agencies in New York City. [5/14/15]
- NAFCU Makes FOM Recommendations to NCUA
A NAFCU Task Force has a number of recommendations for the NCUA to consider as it reviews the chartering process for federal credit unions, including removing geographic limitations on FOM chartering and expansion requests, setting deadlines for the NCUA to respond to FOM amendments, and removing the arbitrary 2.5 million population cap for well-defined local communities. - Alabama Seeks New Loan for Convicted Fraudster
They say truth is stranger than fiction and that certainly appears to be the case with Alabama One Credit Union, which has been much in the news lately due to a large fraud and a cease and desist order from NCUA. Now the credit union is drawing more attention by asking the state regulators and NCUA for permission to make a $120,000 business loan to Danny Butler, who is in federal prison for fraud and check kiting. - Senate Unveils New Regulatory Relief Bill
The Senate Banking Committee unveiled its proposed regulatory relief bill that provides a number of measures that will benefit credit unions with relief from annual privacy notices and a safe harbor for certain qualified mortgages held in portfolio. The proposal also requires that the NCUA conduct a study of the impact of RBC2 on mortgage servicing assets. [5/13/15]
