- Merger Strategy Backfires
OneWest Bank in California had set up a website that generated more than 2,000 form letters urging regulators to approve its merger with CIT Group without a public hearing. Apparently the Fed and community groups were not amused. A public hearing has now been scheduled for later this month, where opponents are expected to raise CRA and "too big to fail" concerns. - Let the CRA Good Times Roll
The OCC released its list of Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) performance evaluations for the period of December 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014, that included 30 covered institutions. Overall ratings assigned were two outstanding and the remaining 28 satisfactory. [1/26/15]
- Quiet Close to 2014 for Agencies
After a quiet close to 2014, agencies acted quickly to ensure that modifications to Basel III capital rules would not significantly affect community banks. In addition, dollar adjustments were made to thresholds under the Truth in Lending Act and Community Reinvestment Act. [1/6/15]
- Measuring Up: Agencies Release Annual CRA Asset-Size Thresholds for Small Institutions
The regulatory agencies announced the annual adjustment to the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) asset-size thresholds used to define small bank, small savings association, intermediate small bank, and intermediate small savings association under CRA. A "small bank" has assets of under $305 million as of December 31 of both of the prior two calendar years. Those meeting the small and intermediate small asset-size threshold are not subject to the reporting requirements applicable to large banks and savings associations. [12/22/14]
- OCC Releases Ratings for November’s CRA Evaluations
Of the 23 CRA evaluations completed by the OCC during November, only one institution was rated Needs to Improve. 20 of the remaining institutions received a Satisfactory rating and two were deemed Outstanding. [12/11/14]
- CRA Examination Schedule Revealed
The OCC has released the schedule of CRA examinations to be conducted during the first quarter of 2015. Public comment on the institutions scheduled for review is strongly encouraged and will be considered as part of the examination. [12/3/14]
- EGRPRA: Time to Clean House?
Its time for EGRPRA (aka Economic Growth and Regulatory Paperwork Reduction Act of 1996). The every decade process of reviewing regulations will begin with the first meeting in Los Angeles on December 2, 2014 and continue throughout 2015. The meeting gives interested parties an opportunity to present their views on any of the 12 categories of regulations that covers safety and soundness areas, money laundering, consumer protection, etc. Need more?
