Two mortgage lenders find out the hard way that originating home loans that don't meet HUD guidelines can be a bad idea. A Tennessee lender has agreed to pay $70 million and a much smaller lender in Utah has agreed to pay $1 million. [12/8/15]

Michigan lender requested an applicant for a mortgage loan get a note from his doctor proving his disability is permanent. HUD and the lender have just settled the case. "A person's qualifications to purchase a home should be the only criteria used to evaluate his or her loan application, not whether they are living with a disability." [11/18/15]
- Loans For Sale
HUD is holding its first sale offering of FY 2016, SFLS 2016-1, with intention to sell unsubsidized single family mortgage loans without FHA insurance. HUD has ruled to amend the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program regulations in order to promote better tracking and accounting procedures regarding the use of grant funds. Through the Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program, local governments can turn a limited amount of Community Development Block Grant funding into federally guaranteed loans for use in economic revitalization.
